What Real Travellers Say...
Before You Go
This section focuses on the planning stage of your Big Lap. It brings together the key decisions you need to work through before departure, helping you get organised, prepared and clear on what matters most.
The guidance is structured and filtered, covering things like timing, budgeting, setup, and logistics without overwhelming you with unnecessary detail. It’s designed to help you think ahead, avoid common planning mistakes, and feel confident about the choices you’re making before you hit the road.
Inspiration & Practical Planning
The Region Guides break Australia down into practical travel regions to help you plan realistically and stay flexible on the road. Each region is designed to give you a clear snapshot of what to expect, how long to allow, and how it fits into your wider route.
These guides aren’t just for planning at home; they’re also built for quick reference while you’re travelling. Whether you’re deciding where to head next, how long to stay, or whether to push on or slow down, the information is laid out to help you make confident decisions without overthinking it.
Journal, Planner & Journal
The Journal section is designed to be used alongside your planning and travel. It gives you space to note ideas, track decisions, map routes and record key details as your plans evolve and your journey unfolds.
It’s practical first; a place to jot down what’s working, what’s changing, and what you want to remember without pressure to “write a story” or fill every page. Use it as lightly or as fully as you like, whether that’s planning notes before you leave or reflections from the road.
FAQs
Is the Big Lap Bible Date Specific?
No, it’s not date-specific. That means no matter when you start your Big Lap, you’ll be able to use the planner section. You can even add your own dates.
Should I buy it if I’m not travelling for a while?
Most people who buy the Big Lap Bible are in the planning stages - whether they will be leaving in 3 weeks or 3 years, the guide was designed to help you:
- Make the big decisions about your Big Lap (when, what and which way!)
- Get inspired about the places you might travel to
- Help you get a big picture overview of the adventure you’re about to go on!
How detailed is the Big Lap Bible?
Given the ground we’ve had to cover to provide you with a comprehensive resource, the information provided is often top-level. Ie, we have hand picked the best things, places, camps and activities in the area to allow you to quickly and easily discern what your trip to each region might look like.
In order for us to jam-pack the book with so much information, we have limited the finer details (like costs, opening hours and contact details). This also allows the book to stay in-date for much longer.
When will the book be updated again?
We update the Big Lap Bible every 2-3 years. Our newly refreshed Expanded Edition was published in January 2026.
The reason for this is because a huge majority of the content we publish within the guide is high-level and doesn’t include the finer details that may frequently change - we generally advise travellers to check these details before planning their trip anyway.
Most of the places, activities, locations and other points mentioned in the guide have remained unchanged for a number of years.
Does it have maps?
The Big Lap Bible does have maps BUT we always advise our customers to purchased a good quality road atlas or have a reliable GPS.
The maps contained in the Big Lap Bible are:
- State Maps: a 1-page map of the whole state, provided by HEMA Maps.
- Region Maps: illustrations of the area with numbered points of interest.
Neither of these maps is intended for driving use.
